Working With Video in DocReviewPad

Import and play MP4 and MOV video alongside your documents, capture still frames as exhibits, and bookmark key moments by timecode.

DocReviewPad lets you review video in the same Case File as your documents, using a player built for close review.

Importing Video

Video imports the same way as documents: from the Import menu, the New Files inbox, or the share sheet in another app. DocReviewPad supports MP4 and MOV files.

Imported videos appear in the document list with a thumbnail of their first frame.

Please review Importing Evidence in DocReviewPad in our Help Center for more information.

Playing Video

Tap a video in the document list to open it in the video player. Annotation tools and Split/Extract are hidden while you view a video, since they apply only to documents.

The video player includes:

  • Play and Pause
  • Scrubbing with frame previews. Drag along the timeline to preview frames and find an exact moment.
  • Playback speed, to slow down or speed up review.
  • Loop, which restarts the video from the beginning and keeps playing when it reaches the end.
  • Skip and hold gestures, to move quickly through the video.
  • Full Screen, to view the video without the rest of the interface.
  • Hide Tools, to hide the player controls for a clearer view.

To present video at trial, export it to TrialPad. Please review DocReviewPad Export to TrialPad on our Help Center for more information.

Capturing a Frame

Save any moment in a video as a still image you can use like any other document.

How to Capture a Frame

  1. Pause on the moment you want, or capture it while the video plays.

  2. Open a video and move to the frame you want.

  3. Tap Capture Frame. Playback pauses.

  4. DocReviewPad saves the frame as a new document in the same folder and offers to open it.

The new document is named after the video and its timecode, for example Deposition (02m03s). You can annotate it, assign Issue Codes, Bates number it, and export it like any other document.

Reviewing and Organizing Video

Many review tools work with video too:

  • Bookmarks mark a timecode. Tap a bookmark to jump back to that moment. Please review Bookmark Pages and Video Timecodes on our Help Center for more information.
  • Notes: each video has one note. Timecodes in the note are links you can tap to jump to that moment.
  • Issue Codes apply to the whole video. Page-level coding isn’t available for video. Please review Assign Issue Codes to Documents on our Help Center for more information.
  • Bates numbers on video are always Ghost Bates, since nothing can be stamped on a video. Please review Bates Stamp Options in DocReviewPad on our Help Center for more information.
  • Exporting copies the original video file, unchanged, using the same naming and folders as documents. Please review Exporting Document Sets on our Help Center for more information.
