Using an Excel File to Populate Your Timeline

You can import multiple events into TimelinePad using a Microsoft Excel file. This can save time compared to entering events one by one.

Importing events using an Excel file can save time compared to entering them one by one in TimelinePad. First, download the Excel template, enter your event details without changing its format, save the file where TimelinePad can access it, then import the file and organize your events.

Download the Excel Template

TimelinePad includes a specially formatted Excel template you must use to ensure a successful import.

How to Download the Template:

  1. Tap Share

  2. Choose Download Excel Import Template.

  3. Save the file to a location accessible to TimelinePad, such as On My iPad or iCloud Drive.

Prepare Your Data

Only two fields are required to create events: Start Date and Title. The template must not be altered or reformatted.

Important: Do not modify the Excel template’s layout or formatting. Copying data from other sources can add unsupported formatting and cause import failures.

How to Enter Data Correctly

  1. Open the saved Excel template.

  2. Enter your event details, keeping the template’s structure unchanged.

  3. Save the completed file in a location TimelinePad can access.

 

Import Your Excel File

Import your prepared Excel file into TimelinePad to create your events automatically.

How to Import the File

  1. Tap + Button

  2. Choose Import Excel File.

  3. From the Document Picker window, select your saved Excel file.

  4. Review the import alert for success and any errors.

  5. If errors occur, view the report to correct issues like missing titles or invalid dates.

Organize Imported Events

After import, all new events are selected for easy organization. Assign colors, icons, or tags to group related events clearly.

How to Organize Imported Events

  1. Select the imported events (they are selected automatically after import).

  2. Use Search Suggestions to filter your search. Then tap Select to select Events you want to customize.
  3. Assign colors, icons, or tags to differentiate them, such as by party or event type. Additionally, add Events to a Layer.
