Working with Layers

The Layers feature in TimelinePad helps you organize and visualize events by grouping them into one or more Layers. Layers let you show or hide specific sets of events, making complex timelines easier to view and manage.

Assign Events to Layers

Layers can be created and applied to individual or multiple events to group related information and streamline your timeline.

How to Assign Events to Layers

1. Select one or more events in the timeline.

2. Tap the Layers button in the editing toolbar.

3. Choose New Layer to create a new Layer, or select an existing Layer from the list.

You can also touch and hold on an event in the Timeline until a menu appears. In the menu tap Layers and then choose New Layer to create a new Layer, or select an existing Layer.

The Layers List in the sidebar shows how many events each Layer contains.

Show, Hide, and Expand Layers

Every timeline includes a default Layer called All Events that contains every event on the timeline. Use the Layers section in the sidebar to control which Layers are visible.

How to Show or Hide Layers

  • Tap the checkbox next to All Events to hide or show all events on the timeline.

  • Tap checkboxes next to individual Layers to turn them on or off.

How to View Events in a Layer

  • Tap the name of a Layer to see the events it contains.

How to Select All Events in a Layer

  • Touch and hold the Layer name.

  • Tap Select Events.

    Layer Colors for Visualization

When working with Layers, TimelinePad colors events based on their assigned Layers. These colors help you see groups of events clearly while editing but do not appear during presentations.

    • Events assigned to one Layer use that Layer’s color.

    • Events assigned to multiple Layers appear in light gray.

Hiding Events Assigned to Multiple Layers

Events are hidden only when all of their Layers are hidden. If any assigned Layer is visible, the event remains visible with its color.
