Case Files are stored in folders - either created by you or in the app folders that iPadOS and macOS create automatically. Learn how these folders work and what they mean for storing your Case Files.
Case Files Are Your Workspace
Our apps are document‑based. Your work is inside a Case File. Think of a Case File like a binder for a single matter. You create or open a Case File first, then add your documents (PDFs, videos, etc.) into that Case File.
On iPad and Mac, Case Files display with their own icons so they’re easy to identify in the Files app or Finder.

iPadOS and macOS Create App Folders
Apple’s operating systems create special App Folders inside On My iPad or iCloud Drive automatically.
-
These folders appear the first time you save, create, or import something in that location using the app. You don’t need to manually create them.
- From the Files app, you may not see the App folders immediately. Once you open the LIT SUITE app, the folder will appear for you to create or save a Case File in that location.
-
These app folders may display a small overlay icon of the app (for example, the TrialPad logo). The icon overlay may appear later or not at all, depending on your iOS version.
-
Some of these app folders are protected “libraries.” On iPad, they can’t be moved or renamed, which is intentional system behavior.
While these App Folders appear, you are not required to create or save a Case File in that location.
iPadOS App Folders in On My iPad
Be careful when using the App Folders inside On My iPad. These folders depend on the app being installed. If the app is deleted—or temporarily offloaded during an iPadOS update—the folder and all Case Files inside it are deleted.
If you save Case Files in these App Folders, keep the following in mind:
-
Backups are essential. Always complete iPad backups before performing iOS updates.
-
Loss is permanent. If your iPad is lost, any Case Files stored only in these App Folders will also be lost.
