Key Docs in TrialPad let you save, organize, and present annotated or clean versions of documents by witness or issue—without altering your original files.
Key Docs are a unique feature in TrialPad that allow you to save annotations—such as highlights and call-outs—on a document without modifying the original. This gives you flexibility to present documents tailored to specific witnesses or issues, while preserving a clean copy for other uses.
How to Use Key Docs
-
Add Annotations First
Apply highlights, call-outs, or other annotations to the document page. -
Tap the Key Doc Button
Tap the Key Doc button in the top right to save the current page or entire document to the Key Docs tab. -
Create Multiple Versions
After saving one version for a witness, tap Clear to remove annotations and add new ones for a different witness. Save each version as a separate Key Doc. -
Organize with Folders
In the Key Docs tab, create folders (e.g., by witness or issue) and move documents as needed. -
Add Unannotated Versions
You can save clean copies as Key Docs for presenting unmarked evidence.
Important Notes
-
Key Docs are references to the original file—deleting a Key Doc does not delete the source document.
-
Deleting the original document in the Documents tab will delete all associated Key Docs.
-
To turn all documents into Key Docs: tap Select > Select All > Edit > Add to Key Docs.
