Apply built-in tags to protect confidential or privileged content during review and export.
DocReviewPad includes two built-in Tags — Confidential and Privileged — that can’t be edited. Tags help identify and control sensitive materials throughout your case file.
A common example is a PDF that includes both ordinary hospital records and an embedded letter from defense counsel. By extracting the letter into its own file and tagging it Privileged, you can exclude it from production without affecting the rest of the record.
How to Assign a Tag
-
Open the document you want to tag.
-
Tap the Tag/Issue button above the preview window.
-
In the pop-over, choose Confidential or Privileged.
-
Tap Document to tag the entire file or Page to tag only the current page.
When Bates labels are applied, any document tagged Confidential will automatically include the prefix “CONFIDENTIAL” in the Bates number.
How to Remove a Tag
-
Open the tagged document.
-
Tap the Tag/Issue button again.
-
Tap Document or Page (whichever was used) to deselect the tag.
Exporting Information
Tagged documents give you control over what leaves your workspace.
-
Documents tagged Confidential or Privileged are automatically excluded from exports unless you choose to include them.
-
Segmenting files—such as splitting exhibits or isolating privileged letters—lets you export only what’s relevant for your production, expert review, or motion filings.
For example:
-
Export only redacted or tagged “Trade Secrets” documents for expert review.
-
Exclude privileged correspondence from a production set.
Each export can be tailored to your litigation objective while maintaining strict confidentiality and precision.
