Use Issue Codes to organize discovery by witness and export focused materials to TrialPad for deposition.
DocReviewPad helps you create focused deposition outlines for TrialPad. Using Issue Codes and export tools, you can build clean sets of documents tailored to each witness while keeping your full case file in one place.
How to Create and Export a Deposition Outline
-
Create a witness-specific Issue Code.
In DocReviewPad, tap the Tag/Issue button. Tap the Plus button, and name the Issue Code (for example, Depo - Caleb Cano). -
Tag documents for that witness.
As you review your documents, assign the new Issue Code to any page or full document you want to include in the outline. -
Export the tagged documents.
-
Tap the Export button at the bottom of the Document List.
-
Under Export From, select the folder you’re working in.
-
Choose to export Documents.
-
Turn off Export All, then tap Select None under Annotations and Issue Codes.
-
Enable only the Issue Code for the witness (e.g., Depo - Caleb Cano).
-
Under Exclude, turn off Confidential and Privileged if you want those included.
-
In Include With Export, turn off all annotation options, but leave Bates Numbers and Summary Report enabled.
-
For file naming, choose File Names.
-
Set the destination to TrialPad, then tap Export.
-
-
Import to TrialPad.
-
TrialPad will launch and display an alert.
-
Open your Case File or create a new one.
-
Tap the red badge on the Plus button in the Documents tab.
-
Tap New Files, select the DocReviewPad Export file, and tap Import Selected Files.
-
Rename the folder (e.g., Depo - Caleb Cano) for quick access.
-
Organize and Sort the Exported Pages
-
In the Documents tab, you'll see full documents tagged with the witness Issue Code.
-
In the Key Docs tab, you’ll see individual pages grouped by each assigned Issue Code.
Example: A page from Exhibit 3 tagged only on page 2 will appear here without the rest of the document.
Manage Overlapping Tags
Some documents may have multiple tags. If so, folders for each additional Issue Code (e.g., Financials, Confidential, Recipes) will appear in the Key Docs tab. You can keep these for cross-reference or delete them.
Customize Document Order
To prepare for questioning:
-
Go to the Key Docs tab and open the witness folder.
-
Tap Custom to set a custom order.
-
Tap Select, then drag pages using the three-line handle.
-
Tap Done to save the order.
You can duplicate any page and add different highlights or annotations to each version.
