Create Deposition Outlines for TrialPad

Use Issue Codes in DocReviewPad to organize discovery by witness, then export focused materials to TrialPad for deposition.

Code and export each witness’s documents in DocReviewPad, then import and arrange them in TrialPad. Your full case file stays in DocReviewPad.

Organize Documents in DocReviewPad

Start in DocReviewPad. Tag the documents for each witness with an Issue Code, then send just those documents to TrialPad.

How to Create and Assign a Witness Issue Code

Create one Issue Code for each witness, then assign it as you review.

  1. Open a document, then tap Issue Code in the toolbar.

  2. Tap Create New Issue Code, then name it for the witness (for example, Depo - Caleb Cano).

  3. As you review, tap Tags/Issues and assign the witness Issue Code to the full document or to the current page.

The double-page button assigns it to the full document, and the single-page button assigns it to the current page.

To tag several pages at once, tap the page grid button in the toolbar, select the pages, then assign the Issue Code.

How to Export a Witness’s Documents to TrialPad

Send only the documents tagged for that witness to TrialPad.

  1. Tap the Export button at the bottom of the document list.

  2. Under Export From, select the folder you’re working in, then choose Documents.

  3. Turn off Export All, tap Select None, then turn on only the witness Issue Code.

  4. Turn on Notes to send your notes to TrialPad as Presenter Notes.

  5. Set the destination to TrialPad, then tap Export.

TrialPad opens automatically when the export is ready. To include Confidential or Privileged documents, add Bates numbers, or change file naming, please review Exporting from DocReviewPad on our Help Center for more information.

Prepare the Outline in TrialPad

Import the witness’s documents, then put them in the order you’ll use them.

How to Import the DocReviewPad Export

When TrialPad opens, it displays an alert about the incoming export.

  1. Open your Case File, or create a new one.

  2. In the Documents tab, tap the red badge on the + Add button.

  3. Tap New Files, select the DocReviewPad Export file, then tap Import Selected Files.

  4. Rename the folder (for example, Depo - Caleb Cano) for quick access.

  5. Note: Renaming the folder in one tab doesn’t rename it in the other. Rename it in both the Documents and Multimedia tabs if you want the names to match.

Where Your Exported Pages Appear

The imported folder appears in both the Documents and Multimedia tabs and contains the full items included in that specific export. The Key Docs tab holds a folder for the witness Issue Code with just the tagged pages. For example, if only page 2 of Exhibit 3 is tagged, that page appears in Key Docs without the rest of the document.

If a document has more than one Issue Code, Key Docs also includes a folder for each additional code (for example, Financials or Confidential). You can keep these folders for cross-reference or delete them.

Notes from DocReviewPad appear as Presenter Notes, and each keeps its DocReviewPad note number. Each Presenter Note holds up to 4,000 characters.

How to Set the Order for Questioning

Arrange the witness’s pages in the order you plan to use them.

  1. In the Key Docs tab, open the witness folder.

  2. Tap Custom to set a custom order.

  3. Tap Select, then drag pages using the three-line handle.

  4. Tap Done to save the order.

Tip: You can duplicate any page and add different highlights or annotations to each version.
