If Transcript Text Appears Extremely Small

If the transcript text becomes extremely small—sometimes only extending partway across the screen—it is usually caused by a very long line of text in the original TXT transcript file.

TranscriptPad scales the font so the longest line fits on the screen. If a line is unusually long, the rest of the transcript text will appear very small.

This often happens when a court reporter inserts content that is not formatted with normal transcript line breaks, such as:

  • A long web address (URL)

  • Instructions about completing an errata sheet

  • Index or certification text pasted as a single paragraph

  • Any block of text pasted as one continuous line

Fixing the Issue

To correct this, edit the TXT file so the long line is broken into shorter lines.

How to Fix Long Lines in a TXT Transcript
  1. Open the TXT file in a simple text editor on your computer (such as TextEdit or Notepad).

  2. Locate the unusually long line of text.

  3. Insert line breaks to split the text into shorter lines.

  4. Save the file.

  5. Reimport the transcript into TranscriptPad.

Once the long line is corrected, the transcript will display at a normal, readable size.
