My Case Files seem to have disappeared on my iPad, where can I find them?

You never have to worry about a LIT SUITE app deleting your case file.

Because of how iPadOS works, the LIT SUITE apps can only access Case Files where they are stored in the Apple Files app. iPadOS does not allow apps to delete files or folders. If a Case File disappears, it’s usually because the file was deleted by the user or has become temporarily hidden.

Check If the File Was Deleted

If the Case File is still missing, it may have been deleted.

To check Recently Deleted:

  1. Open the Files app.

  2. Tap Recently Deleted in the sidebar.

  3. If your Case File is listed, tap Select, then tap the file, then tap Recover.

Deleted files stay here for 30 days before they are permanently removed.

Search for the Case File

If the file wasn’t deleted, it may have been saved in a different location.

Option 1: Use Recents

  1. Open the Files app.

  2. Tap Recents in the sidebar.

  3. Long press the Case File’s name.

  4. Tap Get Info to see its storage location.

  5. Tap the location to open the folder.

Option 2: Use Search

  1. On the Case Selection screen, tap the Search icon (top right).

  2. Type the name of the Case File.

  3. If it appears, long touch and hold the file and tap Get Info.

  4. The location will be displayed under Information.

Once you find your Case Files you should move them to the On My iPad location into a folder named with the app, for example On My iPad > TrialPad for your TrialPad Case Files.

We have seen situations where Case Files are temporarily hidden if an app or the iPadOS requires an update, or after an app or iPadOS update as the Apple Files app rebuilds the various views. Please follow these steps:

    Check for Updates

Sometimes files may appear missing if the app or iPadOS needs to be updated. This can also happen just after an update while the Files app refreshes.

    To update your apps:

    1. Open the App Store.

    2. Tap your profile icon (top right).

    3. Scroll to Available Updates.

    4. Tap Update next to each LIT SUITE app, or tap Update All.

    To update iPadOS:

    1. Open the Settings app.

    2. Tap General > Software Update.

    3. If an update is available, install it and allow the iPad to restart.

If no iPadOS update is available:

    1. Turn off your iPad completely.

    2. Wait two minutes.

    3. Turn it back on.

Follow these Apple steps if you need help restarting your device.

If you follow the above steps and your Case File is still missing, it is probably because the Case File was deleted or you just cannot locate where a Case File was saved within the Files app on your iPad.

If you think a Case File may have been deleted, you should be able to find it in the Recently Deleted location (where it is stored for 30 days before it is permanently deleted). Open the Files app, and in the Locations sidebar tap on the Recently Deleted icon. If you see a Case File there that you want to recover, tap on the Select button, tap on the Case File, then tap on Recover.

To locate a lost Case File, open the Files app and tap on the Recents location at the top of the Locations sidebar, which will list Case Files that you have recently opened. If you see the Case File you’re looking for, long press on the name and choose Get Info from the resulting popup. This will display information about the Case File, and at the bottom beside Where it will show the location where the Case File is stored. Tapping on the location will bring you to that location.

Another option, if you know the name of the Case File you’re trying to locate, is to search for it by typing the name in the Search field in the top right corner of the Case Selection screen. If you find the Case File you’re looking for, long press on the name and choose Get Info from the resulting popup. This will display information about the Case File, and at the bottom beside Where it will show the location where the Case File is stored. Tapping on the location will bring you to that location.

Once you find your Case Files you should move them to the On My iPad location into a folder named with the app, for example On My iPad > TrialPad for your TrialPad Case Files.
