How do I quit all my apps and restart my iPad?

Force quitting apps and restarting your iPad can resolve crashes, slow performance, and other common issues efficiently.

For an iPad with Face ID:

Quit All Open Apps

  1. Go to the Home Screen.

  2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause to open Multitasking view.

  3. Place your finger on an app preview, then swipe up to quit the app.

  4. Repeat until all apps are closed.

    • As each app closes, its preview will slide up and disappear.

    • Remaining apps will shift to the left.

Power Off and Restart the iPad

  1. Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button at the same time.

  2. When the Slide to Power Off slider appears, drag it to power off the device.

  3. Wait at least one minute.

  4. Press and hold the Power button to turn the iPad back on.

For an iPad with Touch ID (Home Button):

Quit All Open Apps

  1. Go to the Home Screen.

  2. Double-press the Home button to open Multitasking view.

  3. Place your finger on an app preview, then swipe up to quit the app.

  4. Repeat for each open app.

    • As each app closes, the preview will slide up and disappear.

    • Remaining apps will shift to the left.

  5. When finished, press the Home button again to exit multitasking.

Power Off and Restart the iPad

  1. Press and hold the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time.

  2. Continue holding both buttons when the screen goes black.

  3. Release both buttons only when the Apple logo appears.

    • This may take 10 seconds or more.
