Assign Issue Codes to Evidence

Categorize documents, pages, and multimedia files by topic or relevance to streamline review and reporting.

Creating Issue Codes

Issue Codes act as labels that identify why a document or page matters. They help group related evidence—such as “Expert Testimony,” “Agreements,” or “Financials”—and make it easy to filter, search, and export by issue later.

For example, you might apply the Issue Code Responsive to all discovery responses or Authentic to verified exhibits. This ensures every coded document serves a clear purpose during review and trial preparation.

How to Create an Issue Code

  1. Tap the Tag/Issue button in the toolbar.

  2. Tap the plus (+) button at the bottom of the pop-over.

  3. Enter a name, select a color, and tap Done.

You can sort Issue Codes by Name, Recent, or Popular to keep your most relevant codes at the top of the list.

Assigning Issue Codes

Issue Codes can be assigned to entire files (documents or multimedia files) or individual pages of a document. Issue Codes can be assigned to entire files one at a time or in bulk, and individual pages one at a time in bulk.

How to Assign an Issue Code

  1. Open a document or page.

  2. Tap the Tag/Issue button above the preview window.

  3. Choose an Issue Code from the list.

  4. Tap Document to apply it to the entire file, or Page to apply it only to the current page.

How to Assign an Issue Code to Multiple Files

  1. You can assign an Issue Code or Issue Codes to multiple files at once.

  2. Tap Select and select your desired files.

  3. Tap Edit.

  4. Choose Assign/Edit Issue Codes…

  5. Tap the Issue Code to assign it to the entire File at once. Your selection is automatically applied and saved.

You can assign an Issue Code to multiple pages within a single document. This is helpful for large document sets.

How to Assign an Issue Code to Multiple Pages

  1. Open a document.

  2. Tap Grid to view all pages.

  3. Select the pages to assign an Issue Code.

  4. Tap Tag/Issue above the preview window.

  5. Identify the desired Issue Code(s) from the list.

  6. Tap Page to apply it only to the current page.

  7. Tap Done.

The button appears solid green when the Issue Code is active. If you assign a code by mistake, tap the Undo button at the bottom of the pop-over to revert your last change.

How to Remove an Issue Code

  1. Tap the Tag/Issue button.

  2. Tap Document or Page again to unassign the code.

Exporting Information

When exporting, you can select documents to export by their assigned Issue Codes.

Segmenting your case file by Issue Code ensures each export set is tailored to your litigation goals and focused on the evidence that matters most.
